Sweet and salty granola cereal recipe

My boys love starting the day with cereal. So much so that I had a real problem on my hands when they started refusing oatmeal, yogurt, and my other healthy go-tos. They begged for cereal to the point where I decided to limit their cereal to three days a week. I’m no joke.

And then I introduced this granola cereal. Since it’s homemade and packed with health, I told the boys that they could eat this even on noncereal days, which felt like a win to them. As for me, well, it’s true that nothing makes the morning as easy as them being able to pour themselves a big bowl of this goodness while I pack lunch. Plus, I get to eat it, too.

  • Yield: 4 cups cereal

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1⁄2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 1⁄2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1⁄2 cup raw, hull-less pumpkin seeds (if these are hard to find or too expensive, substitute another nut, such as chopped raw pecans)
  • 1⁄2 cup raw, hull-less sunflower seeds
  • 1⁄2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
